Description

For Auction:
Another remarkably nice example of early Vibroplex.  This model is their "Lightening Bug" featuring a nice black enameled base with fine Japanning decoration.  Made in 1928 at the peak of America's Golden Age (AKA Roaring Twenties), it was hugely popular despite issues with the triangular pivot design.  It sports large excellent contacts and a speed range better suiting the beginner.  And no, it's not perfect but overall it has survived a century with virtually all of its charm.  These are now long out of production and if you haven't added a Lightning Bug to your collection this key would make a good addition.
FWIW, the pictures do not show this key well.  In person, the Japaning stands out and strikes you as such a nice touch. The dust also detracts from how they really look because in person you don't really notice the dust.  I got out of the habit of cleaning these rare keys because repeated cleanings take a toll on the key.
Condition:
Dusty and as mentioned several times, it could use some very careful cleaning.  The Japanning is 80% or more fand the paint is even better.  We see no problems or issues with this very fine vintage key few of which have survived in this condition.  I rate it as a 9 out of 10 easily.  Buyer should keep in mind that it carries with it the hidden hazards of any cast iron device that is nearly a century old.
