Today we are pleased to offer for sale this wonderful lot of antique Quimper French pottery made by Faiencerie d'Art de Malicorne Pottery. Malicorne Pottery is located in the village of Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, a few hours away from Quimper, France. Included in this lot are 6 wonderful pieces which are great examples of the work of Malicorne.
Included in this lot are:
A figural rabbit bank, 5" l x 2-1/4" d x 2-1/2" h, decorated with the typical male French peasant figure, flowers, bugs; indecipherable mark on bottom; very good condition with one glaze chip on rabbit's flank.
Figural bag pipe wall pocket, decorated with a female figure; 5-1/4" h x 3-1/2" w x 1 1/4" d; holes for hanging; marked "1501 DZ"; very good condition
Figural snuff box or bottle in the shape of a shoe; two holes in the bottom, one under the toe; decorated with abstract plant design; measures 4" l x 1-1/4" w x 1-3/4" h; indecipherable light marks; excellent condition.
Pair Tessier vases, decorated with a blue plaid pattern and florals; measure 2-5/8" dia. x 4-1/2" h; marked "TF" ?; excellent condition.
Figural purse bank, decorated with female peasant figure, butterflies & florals; 4-3/8" w x 2-1/4" d x 4" h; marked "478 JMg"; excellent condition.
and the Prize of the lot, a pair of Griffin shaped candlesticks; 7-1/2" h x 3-1/2" d x 3-3/8" w (square bases); decorated with two coats of arms, tre foils, dots and scalloped trim, florals and leaves; marked "PB"; very good condition, one has three flea bites on the top edge of candleholder.
These are lovely hand crafted pieces which ooze French Country charm. A rare opportunity to own pieces from the collection of the woman who literally "wrote the book" on French Quimper pottery.
