    Description

NEAR MINT 1919 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY (SA) M1905 BAYONET W/M1910 SCABBARD.  The Springfield Armory manufactured the U. S. Model of 1905 bayonet with a 16" blade for the 1903 Springfield Rifle from 1905 through 1922, and those bayonets saw service in both WWI and WWII.  Not only were the M1905 SA bayonets very well made, they were also serially numbered.  This particular SA M1905 bayonet is serially numbered 1,141,867, and as shown by the photos it is in near mint condition.   Although it is difficult to see in the photos, the bayonet's left ricasso is stamped "S A/Flaming Bomb symbol/1919" and its right ricasso is stamped "U S/1141867".  The only change to the bayonet's original condition is a previous owner/collector painted what appears to be a flying bird (?) symbol on the hilt, as shown by the last photo.  I don't know why, but he did this with all of the bayonets in his collection, and I just never bothered to remove it, although it would be easy to do with a little paint remover and would not hurt the original finish.  Also, as shown by the photos the bayonet comes with an Army issue M1910 scabbard.  If you have any questions, please ask before buying, bidding, or making an offer.  Thanks.
