Description
For sale today is an original WWI US M1905 bayonet with a M1910 scabbard. This type of bayonet was the most common style used during WWI and the beginning of WWII. On the bayonet’s ricasso is marked “US” on one side and “RIA 1906” on the other. These marking mean it was made by Rock Island Arsenal in 1906. The blade is in very good condition with only a few small chips. An interesting feature of this bayonet is how the hand guard pins did not fully seat on either side. Fortunately, this rare manufacturing error has not hurt the bayonet as the hand guard still fits tight and does not wobble. The wooden grips are present and are undamaged. The scabbard has a rawhide covered wooden body that fits in a canvas sleeve. The canvas is in very good condition with no holes. The leather tip of the sleeve is in excellent condition given its age. The vast majority of the rawhide is present and in good shape. The metal hook-loops are still present. This is a good example of a very early M1905 bayonet. This item cannot be shipped outside of the United States.
